Software Researcher

Vacancy

Utrecht - Hybrid - Medior/Senior

You analyze software and products potentially worth tens of millions. Your assessment directly influences how investors value and approach a deal.

At YieldDD, you read software the way an investor reads a balance sheet: critically, thoroughly, and always in the context of value creation. You go beyond surface-level reviews and build a clear picture of how software is designed, how it performs, and what it means for future growth.

The role

As a Software Researcher, you carry out technical assessments across two distinct contexts: M&A transactions, where software value and risk directly affect deal outcomes, and organizations with business-critical software that sits at the heart of their operations, whether or not a transaction is on the horizon. You work alongside investors, advisors, CIOs and leadership teams, translating technical findings into clear, decision-ready insights.

You are the specialist who understands that a legacy architecture says more about strategic risk than a bug report, and that scalability is just as relevant as current code quality.

Your work spans the full investment lifecycle and beyond. The same analytical rigor that informs an acquisition decision also supports organizations that simply need to understand and improve the software they depend on every day.

What will you do?

  • Analyze software architectures, codebases and system landscapes across a wide variety of technology stacks
  • Assess scalability, maintainability and technical quality based on the ISO 25010 quality model
  • Evaluate integration potential in the context of buy-and-build strategies, where multiple acquisitions are combined into a single platform and technical alignment is critical
  • Identify technical, operational and functional risks, and map improvement potential with the client's goals in mind
  • Turn findings into clear, executive-ready reports and presentations
  • Participate in client debriefings to present findings, answer questions and support decision-making
  • Collaborate with AI and security specialists within multidisciplinary deal teams

What you bring

Must-haves

  • At least 3 years of experience in software development or software architecture
  • Background in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field (Bachelor’s or Master’s level)
  • Able to quickly orient yourself in an unfamiliar codebase and form a well-grounded view under time pressure
  • Understanding of modern architectures, cloud environments and system design
  • Ability to assess software quality in a structured and objective way
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills: your reports are clear and decision-ready for investors and board-level readers, and you present findings with authority
  • Curious and critical mindset
  • Fluency in English and Dutch

Nice-to-haves

  • Breadth across multiple technology stacks, languages or architectural paradigms
  • Proficiency in German
  • Experience with buy-and-build strategies, system integration or post-merger technical alignment
  • Experience with due diligence, consultancy or complex system analysis
  • Familiarity with ISO 25010 or comparable quality frameworks
  • Affinity with M&A or investment processes

What we offer

  • 25 vacation days
  • Laptop and tooling of your choice
  • Hybrid working: focus days from home, collaborative days at the office
  • Premium-free pension plan with survivors’ pension
  • Budget for training, certifications and personal development
  • A brand-new office in the Houtfabriek at Campus Werkspoor, a fully sustainable timber building that opened in
  • April 2026. The campus has a restaurant, gym, and padel courts are planned for later this year
  • A role with genuine breadth: as part of a growing firm, you will contribute to more than just your own specialism
  • Active support for certifications and specialization
